walmart ammo question

For years I've boycotted Walmart, because I believe they are a bunch of crooks that prey on american small businesses, and sell cheap crap made in China. They run out the local shops with a new store at super cheap prices, then when the local competition is dead, they jack the prices back up. Bastards.

So anyway, I've been paying more buying ammo at a locally owned shop.

However, the cheap prices in ammo, have me asking a question to you folks that purchase ammo at Walmart.

Now, years ago when Walmart started servicing cars, selling tires, a major tire manufactor (I think it was Michelin) was working on trying to sell their tires at walmart. Walmart would not budge on their purchasing price for the tires, and that price...was LESS than the company could even make the tires. They couldn't do it, so what they did...was cut corners and make a cheap quality tire. A "Walmart" version of their tire, which was crap. Brand name, cheap quality, and only sold at Walmart.

I've often wondered, what other brand name products are less quality at Walmart.

So, my question is, is it possible that the ammo is the same way? Brand name, but a "Walmart" version with cheaper primers, powders, etc.

I'm really curious if there are more dead rounds in a box of Walmart ammo, verses a box of the same brand you buy at full price anywhere else.

Has anyone noticed more duds? Because if so...there's no way I would place my life in the hands of a cheaper made bullet.

It's the exact same stuff you'd buy at Academy, Bass Pro Shop, Dicks, or your local dealer.

Keep in mind that some pistols can be picky about the ammo you feed them. Blazer Brass comes to mind - I've had a couple of pistols that didn't like it, but it works fine in my Sigs, Berettas, and CZs. Doesn't matter where I buy the Blazer Brass, it's just the way it's always been.

I'm not a huge fan of WallyWorld, but when you look at all of the gun shops and online dealers jacking up the prices of their ammo, but nearly every type of ammo is the same price as before the election when you can find it at WallyWorld, well, WallyWorld wins that round.

The ammunition at Wal-Mart has identical stock numbers to the ammunition available at my local gun shop, from Cabela's or Midway USA, and so on.

A lot of products are cheap(er) versions made just for Wal-Mart, and the stock numbers usually have a "W" or "WM" or something like that appended.

I mostly shoot a glock 27, .40 cal. She seems to like winchester rounds and is a great little gun. As accurate, IMO, as the glock 22. I may just go to WallyWorld to stock up on ammo after all, if I can find it.

This doesn't just happen at Walmart. About 7 years ago (it was after Carlos Ghosn & Renault got involved), Nissan did a grand "rape the suppliers" program. Long term vendors were told that they had to chop prices for stuff being sold to Nissan assembly plants. This included sheet steel, paint, adhesives, EVERYTHING. They played the game of "your price cut has to be at least 20-30%." If you cut your prices that much, there was still the possibility that somebody even dumber (likely a new, unproven vendor) was willing to cut their throat a little deeper, undercutting your prices. If you chopped your price by 30% & retained the business, Nissan came back in less than a year, demanding another 10-25% cut.

HOW do you think that suppliers chopped prices that much? Of course the official story was that cost savings were achieved by improved manufacturing efficiency, supplier base consolidation, blahblahblah. In reality, suppliers were forced by Nissan to sell CHEAP products. Stuff that would hopefully meet the specs, but definitely would not exceed them as much as had been done in the past.

It's things like this that will keep Nissan from performing at the level of Honda or Toyota. All it takes is one "bright young man" with a MBA to screw things up.

Ahhh, fun & games - Life in the automotive supplier business. I don't miss it that much.

The only problem I have with Wally World ammo is the Winchester in the white box with red letters. It jammed up in 9mm glock and 357 revolver.
I have not had a problem with the Remington or CCI.

I've shot just about everything through my Glock 17. No jamming no nothing. Blazer brass, Winchester, Remington you name it, it more than likely has been fired.

I haven't noticed any difference with any 9MM ammo I've put through it. But for hollow points I do spend the extra money and get the Federal. But for just target shooting / Practice, I shoot the cheapest stuff I can buy.

My local walmart hasnt had any pistol ammo in months. My philosophy is buy what you can where you can. You can still find ammo online, cheaperthandirt.com, cabelas, ammoman.com , sportsmans guide and so on.
Get it while you can or :Surrender:

I had a brand new FN Herstal FN9 that had multiple FTFs and FTEs with the Blazer Brass when I took it out. Sorry, I don't buy into that "break in" period BS, and I don't care if it is the ammo. I figured there might be times (like now) where all you can get is the low-end stuff, and I want it to go "Bang!" in whatever I load it into. I sold it at the next gun show.
